About Me

My name is Kavyaa Naveen

Hi, I'm Kavyaa, I am a dedicated student leader, researcher, and advocate committed to the intersection of medicine, community service, and the arts. As the incoming President of Young Hearts For Life, I lead initiatives to provide life-saving EKG screenings and cardiac awareness across Illinois, driven by a mission to prevent sudden cardiac death in young adults. My passion for healthcare extends globally, from volunteering at local hospitals to shadowing physicians in underserved communities and refugee camps in Greece and India. Beyond clinical interests, I am a classically trained Bharathanatyam dancer at Natya Dance Theater, where I have performed since the 5th grade. This artistic foundation has fueled my current research project, where I work alongside a university professor to explore the fascinating neurological connections between neuroscience and classical dance. Whether I am teaching leadership skills as the President of the LEAD Board, organizing school-wide events, or advocating for health equity, I strive to combine scientific inquiry with compassionate service to make a tangible impact on the well-being of others.

Join me in protecting the next generation’s pulse.

Mission

My mission is to reduce sudden cardiac death by normalizing EKG screenings as a standard of youth wellness. From local schools to global refugee camps, my goal is to raise awareness to protect every heart.

MY RESEARCH

Under the mentorship of Dr. Rachel Gunraj, I am conducting an in-depth research project exploring the neurological intersection of neuroscience and Bharathanatyam. My work analyzes the specific brain regions activated during classical dance to identify the long-term cognitive and neuroplastic benefits of the practice. I am currently in the process of synthesizing these findings into a 4,000+ word formal research paper, which I intend to submit for publication in a peer-reviewed academic journal upon completion.
